Twelve States Urge FERC to Back Oracle Data Center Gas Pipeline in New Mexico

Twelve state attorneys general asked FERC to authorize a 17.8-mile natural gas pipeline in New Mexico to power an Oracle data center campus for OpenAI, saying a broader environmental review could affect similar projects.

The pipeline, proposed by Energy Transfer LP, would move as much as 400 million cubic feet per day of natural gas to power generation infrastructure for Project Jupiter, a large data-center campus Oracle is developing to serve OpenAI. The 12 states said they “have a direct stake” in the dispute over the pipeline, according to the letter. They asked FERC to authorize construction.

The states argued that allowing a broader environmental review could complicate similar projects across the country. The letter does not detail what additional review they fear or what conditions they oppose. The filing marks a pushback by the 12 states against New Mexico in the legal fight over the pipeline, according to Bloomberg.

The pipeline would supply gas to generation infrastructure for Project Jupiter, tying the project to Oracle’s data-center development for OpenAI. Energy Transfer LP is the pipeline developer.
