Two College Applicants Caught Using AI Glasses in Seoul Entrance Exams
Two college applicants in Seoul were caught this month using prohibited AI glasses during entrance exams, Yonhap News reported Tuesday. One was admitted at Yonsei University, and the other was removed from the University of Seoul and banned from its exam for three years.
At Yonsei University in western Seoul, one test-taker wore normal glasses before the start of the mathematics essay portion on Saturday but switched to AI glasses after the exam began, according to the report. Proctors reported the student to the school, and the person admitted to having worn the AI glasses, the sources said. Yonsei University is currently reviewing possible action against the examinee.
A similar incident occurred during an entrance exam at University of Seoul on Oct. 3. In that case, an applicant wore regular glasses while supervisors checked the IDs of test-takers and switched to smart glasses later, Yonhap News reported. The University of Seoul immediately removed the student from the test site and banned the applicant from taking its entrance exam for the next three years.
The report did not identify the applicants or say what model of AI glasses they used. It also did not state how the devices were detected in the University of Seoul case or whether the two incidents were connected. Yonsei University’s possible action was still under review, while the University of Seoul had already imposed its three-year ban, according to the report.
Both cases occurred this month in Seoul and involved applicants who initially wore ordinary glasses during ID checks or before the exams, then changed to smart glasses after the exams were under way. Yonhap News said the Yonsei case took place on Saturday during the mathematics essay portion, while the University of Seoul case took place on Oct. 3.
