uBlock Origin Releases Final Chrome Update Ahead of August 31 Removal

uBlock Origin has issued version 1.74, its last stable release for Chrome, as the Chrome Web Store is set to remove the extension on August 31.

The release comes amid Google's long-running phase-out of Manifest V2 extensions. The uBlock Origin team said Chrome Web Store will pull the extension on August 31, leaving Chrome users only days before it is officially unavailable. The process may already be underway, as a search for uBlock Origin in the Chrome Web Store currently shows only the Lite version.

Google has closed the loopholes that had kept Manifest V2 extensions running, paving the way for uBlock Origin's removal. For many Chrome users, uBlock Origin has long been an essential toolbar tool that blocks ads without interference. However, the ad-blocking experience available in Chrome after this change will not be quite the same as what uBlock Origin offered under Manifest V2, the team indicated.
