Ugreen announces E Ink photo case for iPhone 18 Pro
Ugreen has announced a case with a color E Ink screen for iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max that displays synced photos rather than ebooks. Pricing and availability are still unconfirmed, and it has so far been announced only for China.
Most second-screen cases for the back of a phone focus on ebooks or, when more tightly integrated with the phone's operating system, widgets. TechRadar reported that the Ugreen case takes a different approach by concentrating on photo display. The report said the idea sounds limited compared with some e-paper accessories, even though it offers protection and photo syncing.
TechRadar's writer compared it with the Xteink X4 Pro, an e-paper accessory currently attached to the writer's iPhone. That device allows ebooks to be read on an eye-friendly display. It does not show color and would not be great for photos, according to the report, and the writer is not convinced the Ugreen Magic E Ink Screen Case will excel at images either.
The report noted that images, and especially color, on e-paper screens tend to leave something to be desired. Even high-end products such as the Kindle Colorsoft deliver quite muted shades, it said. Image-focused e-paper accessories have appeared before, including the VidaBay E Ink fridge magnets, which in the writer's opinion display most images quite poorly.
Still, the report said the Ugreen case might surprise, and if the price is right it could be more appealing to some buyers than an ordinary case. The price remains unconfirmed, as does availability. Ugreen has so far announced the product only for China, so it is not yet clear whether buyers in other markets will be able to purchase it.
