Ultrahuman Adds On-Demand Heart Rhythm Scans Through FibriCheck Partnership
Ultrahuman has teamed up with FibriCheck to launch Heart Scan, letting Ring Air and Ring Pro users run a 60-second heart rhythm check on demand. The feature is folded into the existing Atrial Fibrillation subscription and is available only in supported markets across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
The tool extends Ultrahuman's existing Atrial Fibrillation add-on, which keeps watch on a wearer's heart rhythm while they sleep. With Heart Scan, a user who senses that something is wrong opens the app and starts a dedicated test, then sits still for 60 seconds while the measurement runs. FibriCheck's app uses a smartphone camera to carry out an optical test, and the captured data is analyzed by FibriCheck's algorithm. Results are compiled into a PDF.
According to Ultrahuman, that PDF can be handed to a healthcare professional, who receives the recording of what took place rather than a written summary of it. The company describes the feature as a way to get a spot check whenever "something feels off."
Availability is restricted. Heart Scan works only in what Ultrahuman calls supported markets across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. In those markets the feature is being folded into the existing Afib Power Plug subscription, so customers already paying for that add-on are not charged extra for it.
The launch arrives alongside a reminder of why heart monitoring attracts interest. Engadget, which reported the feature, recounted that a friend of its reporter went into atrial fibrillation while driving to work, lost consciousness and crashed the car with two of his colleagues aboard. He had never had heart problems before and had not regarded himself as being at risk. All involved were reported safe, and he has since had a pacemaker fitted, an outcome the report notes few 40-year-olds would normally be thinking about.
