Unreleased iPad mini Smart Folio appears on Apple’s French regulatory site
Apple’s French site lists an unreleased iPad mini Smart Folio, model A3632, before a rumored OLED iPad mini launch.
The regulatory document is dated Sept. 8, 2026, although it is unclear when Apple actually added the listing to its website. Compared with the Smart Folio for iPad mini sixth generation, whose regulatory document is dated Dec. 22, 2022, the unreleased accessory has some differences. According to Apple’s documentation, the new Smart Folio contains at least 3% recycled materials, compared with a minimum of 9% in the current model. It also contains at least 6,610 milligrams of rare earth elements, compared with 3,947 milligrams in the previous version, which could indicate changes to the magnets used to attach the cover to the iPad.
Those figures do not reveal anything specific about the accessory’s design, but the fact that Apple has assigned it a new model number suggests that changes may be coming. The sixth- and seventh-generation iPad mini models are compatible with the same Smart Folio, so a new accessory could indicate that the upcoming model will feature physical changes that affect case compatibility.
The next-generation iPad mini is rumored to feature an OLED display, Apple’s A20 Pro chip, thinner bezels, a relocated front-facing camera and a redesigned speaker system. Bloomberg has also reported that Apple is working on a more water-resistant design, while recent rumors suggest the device could cost considerably more than its predecessor.
There are currently conflicting reports on whether the new iPad mini will retain a 60Hz refresh rate or gain support for 120Hz ProMotion. While previous reports had left the possibility of ProMotion open, leaker yeux1122 recently reiterated that the device will be limited to a 60Hz OLED display. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has indeed tested both options, but he has not been able to confirm which one the company ultimately chose.
The regulatory listing remains available on Apple’s French website, according to 9to5Mac, which links to it.
