Until Dawn 2 launches January 28 on PS5, starring Dacre Montgomery

Engadget reports Until Dawn 2, the survival horror sequel set on a tropical island and starring Stranger Things actor Dacre Montgomery, will launch exclusively on PS5 on January 28.

The sequel to 2015's cinematic survival horror game Until Dawn was announced last summer. Unlike the original, which was developed by Supermassive Games, Until Dawn 2 is being made by Firesprite, a Liverpool-based studio best known for its VR games. Engadget says the new studio appears to be aiming for similar B-horror vibes, but this time the serial killing takes place on a tropical island rather than in an isolated wintery mountain mansion.

The original Until Dawn was known for its Butterfly Effect system, which let players dictate which teenage characters lived or died based on in-game choices. It also featured a star-studded Hollywood cast, including Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere, who died last month and was recognized for one of her standout video game performances. Until Dawn 2's cast is less instantly recognizable, but Stranger Things fans will spot Montgomery, who played Billy Hargrove in seasons two and three and made a brief cameo in the fourth season.
