Valve Adds 'Achievement Sets' to Steam, Splitting Base Game and DLC Progress
Valve is adding achievement sets to Steam, letting developers split a base game's achievements and its DLC's into separate groups with their own progress bars and completion trophies.
Players unlock achievements the way they always have, Valve said. What changes is what they see afterward. On games that support sets, Steam will break the long list of game achievements into the developer-created groups, which Valve says makes it easier to see what has been completed and to find related achievements that can be unlocked next.
Every set has its own progress bar. If a player finishes one, a "set complete" trophy appears on that player's profile.
Steam will also support seasonal achievement sets that developers can archive once they are over. Valve said the temporary nature of such sets opens up possibilities it expects games to use, citing season-based games and time-limited holiday achievements as examples.
A handful of titles already support achievement sets. They are Against the Storm, Age of Wonders 4, American Truck Simulator, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Crusader Kings III, DREDGE, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Forza Horizon 5, Flock Around, He is Coming, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, PowerWash Simulator, PowerWash Simulator 2, Team Fortress 2 and Victoria 3.
Alongside the new grouping, Valve is refreshing the Steam Achievements page. The updated page shows a summary of a player's overall progress, progress within each achievement set, and details on individual achievements.
