Video Shows iPhone Duo Left-Handed Use Ahead of Launch
Video shows iPhone Duo left-handed use; the foldable is designed mainly for right-handed users, with its dock on the right.
According to 9to5Mac, iPhone Duo’s outer display has a straight flat edge on the left because that is where the hinge sits, while the right side has curved corners that invite users to open it like a book. The dock is also positioned on the right side of the display. Apple has not said whether an accessibility setting will allow users to move the dock to the left.
Because hand sizes vary, 9to5Mac said testing the device in an Apple Store will be the only way to know for sure. The report pointed to a video from Tom Hitchins, who posts as @bytereview on Instagram, as the first time it had seen someone try the iPhone Duo left-handed. Hitchins appears somewhat uncomfortable with the device, but he explains in comments that this is because he is actually right-handed, so his left-handed test was done for others’ sake.
The video says the iPhone Duo “works well enough” left-handed, according to 9to5Mac, with Hitchins able to reach from the left side all the way to the dock on the right. The report added that users will still want to test the device themselves to be sure.
The 9to5Mac writer said he is right-handed but uses his iPhone in his left hand so that his dominant hand remains free, and suspects many other right-handed users do the same. He said he is unsure about adjusting to using iPhone Duo in his right hand and will report back once he is able to test it.
