Vivo launches X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max in China, led by a 17EV video flagship

Vivo's X500 Pro Max leads the new China-only X500 lineup with 17EV dynamic range, 4K/240fps video and a 400mm tele extender.

The X500 Pro Max sits at the top of the range. According to The Verge, it is the first phone to use Sony's Lytia L910 image sensor, the first Sony sensor to employ LOFIC, a technology that expands dynamic range. The 50-megapixel, 1/1.28-inch-type sensor delivers what Vivo calls "true 17 EV ultra-high dynamic range," which the report says exceeds the 16.5 stops Xiaomi claims for its 17 Ultra.

The Pro Max also carries over the 200-megapixel, 3.7x telephoto camera from the X300 Ultra, along with support for that phone's 400mm teleconverter lens. Android Authority describes the accessory as an optional 400mm-equivalent extender, and lists 17EV Log video and 4K/240fps recording among the Pro Max's headline video capabilities.

The X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max are the first phones to run on MediaTek's new Dimensity 9600 Pro, while the base X500 uses the Dimensity 9600M. The 2nm Pro chip brings the usual performance gains as well as the ability to record 4K at 240fps slow motion, according to The Verge. Ten-bit Log recording and new cinematic video styles are included across the Pro models.

Screen sizes run from a compact 6.36 inches on the X500 Pro to 6.85 inches on the Pro Max, with the standard X500 in between. All three phones use OLED displays, run Vivo's OriginOS 7 software and carry silicon-carbon batteries ranging from 6,510mAh to 8,000mAh. The Verge reports that the launch is China-only for now with a global release planned, though no timing has been given; Android Authority likewise says international pricing and availability remain unconfirmed.

The X500 series follows several generations in which Vivo positioned its X phones around camera hardware. The X300 Pro was noted for its photography, and the X300 Ultra paired a 200-megapixel main camera with a 400mm lens attachment.
