Volkswagen brings Tetris and other AirConsole games to 2027 infotainment displays
Volkswagen is adding AirConsole in-vehicle gaming to 2027 models, with Tetris, Pac-Man Championship Edition and Uno Car Party among 20 launch titles. Players use phones as controllers, and access requires a Volkswagen In-Vehicle Premium subscription.
Along with Tetris, the lineup includes Pac-Man Championship Edition and Uno Car Party, Engadget reported. After players start a game on the display, they use a phone as a wireless controller. Engadget said it is not clear how many devices will be supported at launch. The report also said no other compatible peripherals appear to be planned, meaning players need a smart device, or several for multiplayer.
Some games will integrate with ambient lighting in certain vehicles, Volkswagen says, with the lighting matching events in the game. A custom Volkswagen version of Pac-Man replaces the usual power pellets with Volkswagen logos and turns fruit pickups into cars.
AirConsole is tied to Volkswagen's In-Vehicle Premium service, which also includes Wi-Fi hotspot support, exclusive navigation features and other connected experiences. Most 2027 vehicles come with three complimentary months of the service. After that, continued access costs $149 per year. The game library is only accessible when the vehicle is parked.
