Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons' imp companion Skev will be 'his own character,' studio head says
Invoke Studios head Dominic Guay says Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons' imp Skev is an 'unreliable guide' with his own motivations, helping the player without being a controllable sidekick.
Guay explained that Skev will assist the player narratively and with practical utilities, offering lore and insights about new places encountered during travel. However, Skev will not be a typical sidekick; he has his own motivations, including searching for his lost master, just as Kaatri is looking for someone.
"We iterated a lot on him. So he actually is his own character," Guay said. "He wasn't born to be a sidekick. That was the mentality. He used to be the advisor to the ruler of Darkon, so in a way, he had a really important role in that land before his master vanished, and his quest is to find his lost master, and Kaatri's quest is to find someone too."
According to Guay, Skev will not be controlled by the player in combat, so he will not die or get in the way, but he may help in certain situations, such as picking locks. The player will also be able to decide how to upgrade Skev's abilities throughout the adventure, giving the companion practical applications beyond dialogue.
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is scheduled to release in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
