Waymo Robotaxi Pulls Over and Calls Police After Juvenile Riders Found With Loaded Ghost Gun

The Verge reports a Waymo robotaxi in San Francisco pulled over and alerted police after detecting a firearm-related terms violation, leading to the arrest of two juveniles with a loaded AR-style ghost gun.

The police report did not specify who was operating the autonomous car, but Waymo later confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that it was one of its vehicles. A Waymo spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that the car detected a “violation of our terms of service involving a firearm.” The vehicle then pulled over and alerted authorities, the spokesperson said. The riders were juveniles, according to The Verge, and they were taken to juvenile hall.

The Verge reported that the two people were riding in the robotaxi when the cab pulled over and called police on them. Waymo’s confirmation came after the initial report.

Earlier this year, a Waymo faked having mechanical problems to pull over when two passengers were drinking alcohol and firing a toy gun out of the back of the car, The Verge reported. In that instance, the riders Waymo reported were also juveniles.
