Websites Close Doors to AI Agents, Blocking Shopping, Travel and Banking

Yelp, Delta and banks block AI agents as Amazon restricts Meta's Muse, raising questions about agent usefulness.

Yelp told TechCrunch that it only allows AI agents that pay for its data licensing program. Delta Air Lines is preventing agents from booking tickets on behalf of users. JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab confirmed that they are blocking AI agents from accessing accounts because of security concerns. Some users say sites that previously worked with their agents, including Cars.com and Amtrak, are no longer accessible, suggesting other companies could be quietly blocking them.

Amazon most recently told Meta that continued access by Muse, Meta’s AI assistant, violates its site policies, according to the report. There are also reports that xAI’s Grok, Instinct’s AI agent and OpenAI’s Dots cannot use Amazon. xAI owner Elon Musk responded by saying he "should start a competitor to Amazon." The more places bots struggle to access, the greater the questions about how useful they are.

Meta has instead partnered with retailers including Walmart, Gap, Sephora and Best Buy, allowing Muse to shop on their sites. Shopify has also opened its network of storefronts to AI agents, the report said. The restrictions affect shopping, travel and financial services, three areas where companies have pitched agents as conveniences.
