WhatsApp Android Beta Adds Message Scheduling
WhatsApp's Android beta adds message scheduling, letting users pick send times and manage queued messages.
The feature appeared in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.8.11. Users access it by tapping and holding the send button, according to Engadget, which said a dialog then opens at the bottom of the screen for choosing a delivery date and time. The beta also includes a dedicated section for managing scheduled messages before they are sent.
Scheduled messages are set to be sent at the chosen time even if the device is offline, Engadget reported. They support text, links, photos and videos, and are protected by end-to-end encryption, as with any message. The scheduling window allows messages to be set as little as 10 minutes ahead of the current time or as far as two weeks in advance. The feature is also compatible with group chats.
The feature is now in beta for some WhatsApp testers on Android and should roll out to more accounts in the coming weeks, according to Engadget. The report said that with a formal beta available, an official release can be expected in the near future.
Engadget said WhatsApp users have long requested message scheduling for recurring reminders, time-zone management and handling business communications off-hours.
