WhatsApp doubles status update music clips to 30 seconds
WhatsApp is rolling out support for up to 30-second music clips in status updates, doubling the previous 15-second limit, according to WABetaInfo.
Status updates are WhatsApp’s equivalent to Instagram Stories. Under the new limit, users can select as much as 30 seconds of a song to publish alongside a photo, or share a music clip directly as a status update.
WABetaInfo said that after selecting a song from the music catalog, users now see a clip duration picker in the music editor with options up to 30 seconds. Users can scroll through those options to choose how many seconds of the song to include, and can pick a shorter clip if they prefer.
As is typical for WhatsApp’s server-side feature rollouts, the new 30-second limit is not yet available to everyone. WABetaInfo noted that some users on both iOS and Android are already seeing the extended duration, and listed WhatsApp version 26.35.72 as a compatible update on iOS.
