WhatsApp extends Liquid Glass design to its iPhone video player

WhatsApp has begun rolling out its Liquid Glass redesign to the iPhone video player, adding a translucent progress bar and refreshed bottom controls, according to WABetaInfo.

The update, spotted this week, follows WhatsApp's earlier confirmation in August that a video player redesign was in development.

According to WABetaInfo, the new video player adopts a progress bar with the same translucent, glass-like appearance used elsewhere in the app. The bar appears as a floating element at the top of the screen with a translucent background and rounded corners. In light mode the background is white, while in dark mode it turns dark. The control bar at the bottom of the screen has also been refreshed, which WABetaInfo says makes the interface more immersive and consistent with the Liquid Glass design language introduced with iOS 26.

The video player was among the few remaining parts of WhatsApp still using the older look for users who already have access to the redesign, the site added.

WhatsApp's Liquid Glass rollout has been gradual. The company began testing the redesign in October 2025 and released it officially only in May 2026, after months in which availability was very limited. Many readers of 9to5Mac have continued to report seeing the old interface on their devices.

Meta has kept expanding the redesign since then. Liquid Glass reached the iPad app in June and the Mac app in July, and WhatsApp has continued updating individual portions of the iPhone interface in the months since.

As is common with WhatsApp feature releases, and with the Liquid Glass rollout in particular, the updated video player may not be available to all users yet.
