WhatsApp works on support for up to three accounts on iPhone

WhatsApp is working on support for up to three accounts on iPhone, according to WABetaInfo, after adding a second account last June.

WABetaInfo said the change appeared in an account selector interface. In screenshots described by the site, the left screen shows an option to add a second account at the bottom of the interface, while the right screen shows the interface after a user logs into a third profile. The layout remains the same: accounts appear with their name, profile photo and phone number, and the active account has a green checkmark. When the feature becomes available, users will see an Add account option even when they already have two active profiles in the same app. The report said WhatsApp may support more than three accounts in the future.

Each account would keep its own chat history, notifications, privacy settings, backups and media, according to WABetaInfo. The report noted that while two accounts may be enough for many users, the option could be useful for people who have different combinations of work and personal phone numbers.

The feature is still under development and is not yet available to beta testers, WABetaInfo said, suggesting that a wider release may still take some time. No release date was announced.
