WiiM Bar Review: Solid Debut With Virtual Atmos, but Missing AirPlay 2 and HDMI Passthrough

TechRadar deems WiiM's first soundbar a solid virtual-Atmos debut, though it lacks AirPlay 2 and HDMI passthrough.

In a review published on Oct. 22, 2026, TechRadar described the WiiM Bar as a standalone 3.0.2 soundbar without a subwoofer or surround speakers and without up-firing drivers for true Atmos. The publication said the bar's virtual Atmos processing was convincing in testing. In Godzilla Minus One, it tracked the vertical movement of a plane overhead and mapped its descent so the audio seemed to come from below, while dialogue remained clean and separated from action even when heavy bass entered the mix. With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, dialogue between the Toads in Peach's Castle was clear, and effects such as thrown hammers and Yoshi's tongue were tracked precisely, producing an expansive viewing experience, the review said.

TechRadar said the soundbar was not the most dynamic it had heard at its price point. Sudden noises such as Godzilla's roar or the destruction of the castle sometimes lacked impact, and the lowest frequencies could feel subdued. The review said adding a subwoofer would make a substantial difference but would come at considerable cost. Bass performance was not poor: in Nosferatu, the eerie score had decent power, Count Orlok's voice was reproduced effortlessly, and the bar produced wide sound, with the sound of rats eating flesh seeming to come from a corner of the testing room.

For music, TechRadar rated the WiiM Bar good rather than great, which it said was standard for this kind of soundbar. On First Night by Vitess, the low end was not the most regimented, so pumping bass was less rhythmic than it could have been, though darker frequencies hit with decent weight and mid-range synths had good presence and definition. Atmos mixes were presented with width and depth, the review said.

The review said the WiiM Bar's maximum power output is 135W and that it can reach impressive volumes for filling a larger space with cinematic sound. Night mode provides a lower-key listening experience and works well, according to TechRadar. Voice mode is intended for podcasts or bringing dialogue forward, Movie mode for cinematic audio and Music mode for music. These can be selected with the included remote or through the WiiM app. TechRadar praised the app as easy to use, well laid out and feature-rich, with options to customize the display, edit EQ for each source using traditional and parametric settings, and change voice assistant and streaming settings. It singled out RoomFit, which provides a customized parametric profile for optimized sound.

TechRadar said the WiiM Bar has many connectivity options but lacks AirPlay 2 and HDMI passthrough. The soundbar also has a unique display that can be toggled on and off. The review concluded that the WiiM Bar is a solid soundbar debut, with strong virtual Dolby Atmos, clear dialogue, a feature-rich app and a distinctive display, while noting that its sound is not the most dynamic and that the missing features limit it.
