Withings to Charge New Users $100 a Year for Third-Party App Syncing

Withings will require new accounts created from Oct. 13, 2026, to pay for automatic syncing to apps such as Apple Health and Google Health, while existing users keep the feature free.

The subscription costs $9.95 per month or $99.50 per year, The Verge reported. Withings devices come with a free one-month trial that includes the option to sync data to third-party apps. When the trial ends, the syncing is paused, but data already stored in those third-party apps is not deleted.

The change was described in a discussion on Withings’ support forums that was spotted by MacRumors, according to The Verge. A member of the Withings support team said in official comments that existing users who created a Withings account on or before October 12, 2026, will continue to have access to automatic third-party app syncing for free. Because the feature is tied to an existing user’s account rather than a specific device, those users will keep the free syncing option if they buy and register new watches, scales, or other Withings hardware.

New users who do not pay for Withings Plus will still be able to use their devices, but automatic syncing to third-party health apps will stop after the trial period. The data in those apps remains intact. The policy does not remove data from third-party services when syncing is paused.

The Verge reported that the change affects new accounts from October 13, 2026, onward. Existing accounts created on or before October 12, 2026, remain outside the new subscription requirement.
