Wyze's $149 Ultra BodyScan Plus moves the scale's screen to its handle
Wyze's $149 Ultra BodyScan Plus moves its screen to the handle and adds over 50 body metrics without a subscription.
The Plus costs about $30 more than the $119.98 Ultra BodyScan that debuted nearly a year ago. The redesign relocates the screen, but Wyze also increased the number of body-composition metrics the scale measures.
Last year's model measured 13 metrics, including weight, BMI, bone mass, body water percentage and muscle weight. The Plus tracks more than 50 metrics, including visceral fat, protein and basal metabolic rate, which is the minimum number of calories the body needs each day to sustain itself. Using bioelectrical impedance analysis, it provides a breakdown of those metrics across the arms, legs and torso.
All of the Ultra BodyScan Plus' features are available without monthly or annual fees, according to The Verge. The scale can sync data to Apple Health, Google Health and Android's Health Connect over Bluetooth through a nearby smartphone, or directly through the cloud using a home Wi-Fi network. Wyze's competitor Withings revealed last week that new users will need a $99.50 annual subscription to sync and access their health data through third-party apps.
The scale can recognize and store health metrics and measurements for up to eight registered users and allows an unlimited number of guests to take one-off measurements. It also has a mode for measuring the weight of children, pets and luggage while the user holds them, but that mode does not include the advanced health metrics breakdown.
