Wyze's New $40 Indoor Camera Has a Lens That Retracts for Privacy

Wyze announced the Indoor Cam Pan, a $39.98 pan-and-tilt indoor camera with a lens that retracts completely into the body for privacy.

The Indoor Cam Pan can rotate 360 degrees and tilt up and down 103 degrees. When privacy is desired, the lens tilts down until it disappears inside the body, making it unable to see anything. This is cheaper than Wyze's Cam Pan v3, which costs $44.98 and can tilt 180 degrees with IP65 water resistance for outdoor use, but records only 1080p. The new model records at 2K resolution, a step down from the $59.98 Cam Pan v4's 4K.

Other features include a quiet motor, AI-powered motion tracking that can ignore objects like robot vacuums or people and pets outside customizable detection zones. Night vision uses infrared LEDs, but recording drops from 20fps to 15fps in low light. There's a microSD slot for local storage up to 512GB, a speaker and microphone for a 95-decibel alarm or two-way audio. The camera is also compatible with Wyze's Cam Plus and Cam Unlimited subscription plans for AI-powered alerts.
