Xbox Mythic Achievements Enter Insider Testing, Matching PlayStation Platinum Trophies

Microsoft has announced Xbox Mythic Achievements, a top-tier award unlocked after earning every original achievement in a game, and opened it to Xbox Insiders for testing.

According to The Verge, the new award has already been applied retroactively to eligible games that players completed in the past, including Xbox 360 titles. "Mythic Achievements have already been added to eligible games you completed in the past, including Xbox 360 titles," the Xbox team said. "The next time you visit your profile, you may discover that some of your favorite games have already reached Mythic status."

Xbox profiles will soon gain a new gaming tab where players can track Gamerscore milestones and Mythic Achievements, and the main Achievements list is being updated so that Mythic status is easier to follow. "A new progress bar at the top of each game's achievement list shows how close you are to Mythic status, with an option to focus on the original achievements you still need," the Xbox team said.

The feature surfaced before the official announcement when it leaked as part of an Xbox PC app last week, complete with a unique unlock sound. The testing period began weeks after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the company would add a platinum trophy equivalent later this year.

Microsoft has not given a date for when Mythic Achievements will reach all players, saying only that the feature is in testing with Insiders. The Verge reported that the announcement and the Insider rollout came on the same day.
