Xbox's Mythic achievements surface in PC app, echoing PlayStation's Platinum trophies
A new Xbox PC app update has revealed Mythic achievements, awarded for completing every achievement in a game. Microsoft has not announced the feature officially.
According to data in the app, a Mythic achievement appears once a player completes all the achievements in a given game. The Verge reported that the achievement arrives on screen with its own unique unlock sound, separate from standard achievement notifications, and that players will be able to track Mythic achievements through the Xbox dashboard. Players will also be able to display their Mythic count on their profiles.
Some Xbox Insider testers have already started spotting references to Mythic achievements in early versions of the Xbox dashboard, suggesting the feature is being tested ahead of a wider release.
The references in the PC app follow comments from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who said last month that Xbox would be getting a platinum trophy equivalent later this year. Microsoft has still not officially announced Mythic achievements. The Verge noted that if the feature is already beginning to appear in early Xbox software, an official launch is likely to come soon.
The Mythic achievement references appeared in the Xbox PC app on the same day Microsoft announced it was laying off 268 Xbox staffers. Alongside the layoffs, the company said it was likely closing Ninja Theory and moving Halo, Sea of Thieves and Age of Empires over to Activision.
