Xbox Unveils Mythic Achievements, Its Answer to PlayStation Platinum Trophies

Xbox unveiled Mythic Achievements, a badge for fully completing a game's original achievements, now in Insiders testing.

A Mythic Achievement is earned when a player completes all original achievements for a title. Achievements added later through downloadable content or updates do not affect Mythic status, and Xbox said the badge is “yours to keep.” The program is retroactive, so games that have already been fully completed in the past will qualify. Support extends back to Xbox 360 titles.

“The next time you visit your profile, you may discover that some of your favorite games have already reached Mythic status,” Xbox senior product manager Alex Charters wrote in a blog post. Data for Mythic Achievements and other milestones can be viewed through a new Gaming tab in Xbox profiles. Each Mythic Achievement has a “heroic frame,” and the tab includes a social element that lets players check friends' profiles to see whether they have fully completed games such as Gears of War 2. A progress bar above each game's achievement list shows how close a player is to Mythic status. A post on X showed a first look at a Mythic Achievement for Gears of War: E-Day.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teased the program earlier this year. Microsoft's consoles have had an achievements system for years, but the company had not offered a tiered badge comparable to Sony's platinum trophies until now. Engadget reported the announcement.

The Insiders-only launch follows other tests on the program. Xbox is beta-testing a service that creates digital versions of physical games, and it is experimenting with a free, ad-supported cloud gaming platform.
