Xianyu Says Summer Anti-Fraud Push Sent Nearly 100 Leads to Police, Led to 40-Plus Arrests
Xianyu said its summer anti-fraud push sent nearly 100 leads to police and helped arrest more than 40 suspects.
The platform described a persistent problem in telecom and online fraud governance: the actual fraud often happens outside the platform. After making contact on a platform, offenders move users off-site, removing them from platform safety protections before carrying out the scam. Users under the influence of fraud scripts often ignore platform risk warnings, and by the time they report the case, funds have usually been transferred, leaving little chance to recover losses through post-event punishment.
Against that backdrop, Xianyu said it has explored an intervention-during-the-event approach. It built a three-part system: customer service telephone reminders, police warnings and abnormal link interception. The platform said this complements police response capacity by intervening during the window when a scam is unfolding, aiming to break the fraud chain before funds are transferred.
For immediate intervention, Xianyu no longer limits itself to risk warnings for users suspected of being deceived during routine reviews. It upgrades the response to emergency manual outbound calls. The platform's customer service currently makes about 900 manual outbound reminders per day on average, which it said helps block scams in time and recover user losses.
In police-enterprise cooperation, Xianyu automatically pushes information on suspicious accounts found in after-the-fact reviews to the Ministry of Public Security and local public security organs after completing risk warnings, so police can carry out warning and dissuasion. In July, a user was induced to download a third-party high-risk application. After Xianyu detected the risk, it immediately sent a warning, and local police went to the user's location to dissuade them. The user deleted the suspicious application in time and avoided property loss.
At the link-blocking level, Xianyu uses intelligent system identification to intercept abnormal situations tied to common fraud tactics and simultaneously calls out to alert users, effectively cutting off fraud links.
Xianyu also said it joined the National Anti-Fraud Publicity Month in July, co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, and carried out anti-fraud knowledge publicity within its app. The campaign attracted 1.48 million users, it said.
Xianyu said it will continue to deepen cooperation with public security organs, optimize risk identification models and jointly improve a pre-emptive fraud risk intervention system, using technology to protect users' property safety.
