Xiaomi Unveils Pengcheng SUVs from 209,900 Yuan, Showcases Pop-Up Roof Explorer
At its Sept. 7 event, Xiaomi unveiled four Pengcheng SUVs from 209,900 yuan, led by the N90 Max Explorer with a pop-up roof and dual-bed layout.
The most anticipated product was the N90 Max Explorer. Based on the N90 Max, the Explorer switches the seven-seat layout to a large five-seat configuration and adds an original electric pop-up roof and one-touch bed-forming second-row seats, creating two sleeping levels. It also features wood-grain aluminum flooring, three-zone underfloor heating, an embedded cabinet, smart electric doors and a compressor refrigerator, with an optional 30-inch projection system using a 650-lumen vehicle-grade projector.
The pop-up roof is a factory-integrated structure, adding just 100mm to vehicle height when closed, bringing total height to 1,925mm and a drag coefficient of 0.245. Xiaomi said the structure completed 10,000 open-close cycles and passed 19 safety protections, while the vehicle completed a rollover test at 44.7 km/h with no roof detachment or obvious deformation. With the roof raised, the vehicle offers a maximum interior headroom of 2.29m, and the upper area measures 2,110 by 985mm, has a 200kg load capacity and provides about 1.7 square meters of lighting area through five mesh screens.
Inside, the second-row seats are split 4:6 and electrically fold flat into a bed measuring 1.87m by 1.24m, with ventilation and heating. A sliding center console and magnetic/charging points are integrated. Each side can be folded independently, allowing one side to serve as a bed while the other remains usable with a track-mounted table for work or dining. At the launch, Lei Jun, Xiaomi's CEO, described the Explorer as suitable for use as a mobile studio, viewing deck or temporary makeup room, and said the roof and bed can be deployed in about 30 seconds once the vehicle is parked.
For the N70 series, Xiaomi aims at a more compact and affordable option. The N70 features a 2.58m flat floor, a 4-square-meter usable area, five long rails and a sliding center console. In standard form, rear legroom is 1,010mm, extending to 1,410mm with seats moved back. The second-row seats can rotate, creating a seating mode with up to 1,687mm between occupants. Boot capacity is 1,200 liters standard, or 662 liters with the second row in its rearmost position, expanding to 2,425 liters when folded.
The N70 Pro is priced at 209,900 yuan with a 210kW single motor, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The N70 Max costs 239,900 yuan and uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 310kW, with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.5 seconds. The price difference includes dual motors, an additional 154km of CLTC electric range, air suspension, continuous damping control, a 20-inch HUD and a 25-speaker sound system. The Pro uses a 52kWh LFP battery from Sunwoda, with 351km CLTC electric range and 1,351km combined range; the Max uses a 76kWh ternary lithium battery from CALB, with 505km electric range and 1,461km combined range. Both support 92-octane gasoline.
On safety, the N70 has a steel-aluminum body with 91.3% high-strength steel and aluminum, including 14 parts made of 2,200MPa ultra-high-strength steel. It features nine airbags, a 600mm wading depth, emergency float capability and burst-tire stability control at 160 km/h. The battery pack passed a series of tests, including a 500J bottom impact, water wading and nail penetration at 55°C. Xiaomi also introduced an 'assurance plan' that compensates with an equivalent new vehicle if the original battery causes a fire due to quality issues.
The N90 Max, priced at 269,900 yuan, is a seven-seat SUV with a dual-motor system producing 310kW and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds. It has a 76kWh CALB battery, offering 464km of CLTC electric range and 1,705km combined range. To aid parking in tight spaces, it adds a rear solid-state lidar to detect slopes, hanging objects and overhead pipes in garages. Standard equipment includes air suspension, 21-inch wheels, 25-speaker audio, 12 airbags, and body structures using 2,200MPa steel and a 14-ton roof load rating.
Aside from the cars, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 18 Fold, starting at 10,999 yuan, powered by the Xuanjie O3 chip, with a 6,000mAh battery and a foldable design weighing 219g. A ceramic edition sells for 15,999 yuan with only 1,500 units. The company also introduced the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max at 4,799 yuan, with a 13.3-inch 3.4K screen and a 12,000mAh battery.
