XPeng MONA L05 Opens Presale From 169,800 Yuan, Steps Into Main Brand SUV Territory
XPeng's MONA L05 opened presales on Oct. 15 with battery-electric and super extended-range versions, priced from 169,800 yuan. It will launch on Oct. 29 and targets young buyers with a large five-seat cabin, up to 1,500 TOPS of smart-driving compute, and direct competition with XPeng's G6 and G7.
The five presale versions are the battery-electric 535 Max and the super extended-range 1310 Max at 169,800 yuan each; the battery-electric 635 Max at 179,800 yuan; the super extended-range 1310 Ultra SE at 181,800 yuan; and the battery-electric 635 Ultra SE at 191,800 yuan.
MONA has become XPeng's volume base. Over the past two years, the series has delivered more than 350,000 units, averaging more than 14,000 units a month. The L03, unveiled in Munich in July, set an order record across XPeng's lineup, helped by pragmatic pricing, appealing design and class-leading smart-driving capability. With that foundation, MONA is now moving upward.
The L05 is positioned as a large five-seat SUV for young buyers. Its product team is more than 90 percent made up of people born after 1995 and 2000, according to ifanr. The vehicle measures 4,870mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,636mm high, with a 2,940mm wheelbase. A design team led by former Ferrari exterior design chief JuanMa Lopez applied the Vital Flow design language. The L05 has a 0.6 wheelbase-to-length ratio and a 1.18 width-to-height ratio, aiming to keep the large SUV low and visually lighter.
Inside, the cabin follows MONA's minimalist approach, with a dual-layer floating instrument panel and rounded corners. Hidden front air vents support adaptive modes that avoid direct airflow or adjust airflow based on occupant position. All versions have high-density cloud-feel foam seats, front ventilation, heating, pneumatic leg rests and 14-point massage. The front seats can be folded flat, and the rear seats support 11-degree electric backrest adjustment and heating. Higher trims add an AI active-fit driver's seat with 85 sensors and 27 air cells, supporting adaptive fit and active side-wing support in corners. A 17.3-inch rear sky entertainment screen can hover between 0 and 105 degrees and supports handheld console projection.
The trunk has a regular volume of 702 liters, with opening width, interior width and depth all over one meter. XPeng says it can hold three 20-inch folding bicycles without removing their wheels. Folding the rear seats expands volume to 1,913 liters, and battery-electric versions add a 102-liter flat, washable front trunk. The L05 also has a slide-out drawer of more than 10 liters under the rear seat cushion, 22 expansion interfaces including five quarter-inch threaded mounts, eight hidden magnetic points and four trunk pegboard interfaces, and 6kW external discharge.
For smart driving, the Max versions use a single Turing AI chip with 750 TOPS and run the second-generation VLA Lite model. The Ultra SE versions use two Turing AI chips and 1,500 TOPS, the highest in the class according to ifanr, to run the full XPeng Turing second-generation VLA model. The cockpit assistant, Xiao P, has evolved into a Master Agent based on XPeng's self-developed Omni multimodal foundation. It can respond to 'the car feels stuffy' by opening windows and switching to external circulation, and can recognize vague requests such as 'the building by the Huangpu River that looks like a bottle opener.'
The chassis uses a front MacPherson and rear five-link suspension, with standard DCC adaptive dampers. XPeng's agile steering technology reduces the turning radius of the nearly 4.9-meter vehicle to 5.4 meters.
The L05's first competitors are XPeng's own five-seat SUVs, the G6 and G7. The G6's base guide price is 176,800 to 186,800 yuan, while the G7 is priced at 195,800 to 205,800 yuan. The G7's entry version is only 4,000 yuan above the L05's top presale price. The L05's wheelbase is 50mm longer than the G6 and G7, and it receives XPeng's Turing AI chip and second-generation VLA smart-driving model. The G6 and G7 still have engineering advantages: an 800V high-voltage SiC platform and 5C fast-charging batteries, versus the L05's 3C solution; the G7 also has a range advantage. The G6 and G7 use a front double-wishbone suspension, which is more expensive and offers greater lateral stiffness. But ifanr argues that for most buyers in this price range, those differences are harder to perceive than the L05's design, large cabin and advanced smart-driving features. With the L05's launch still ahead, pressure has shifted to XPeng's main brand.
