XREAL Aura Android XR Glasses Expected by End of 2026 at Under $1,500 After Hands-On IFA Demo

The reporter had heard about Project Aura for months and wondered whether it would live up to the hype. After trying the glasses, the reporter came away more excited than expected. XREAL representatives at IFA were careful about the price, noting that under $1,500 might not necessarily mean $1,499.

Aura brings the familiar Android experience into the space around the wearer instead of keeping it on a handheld screen. Apps and virtual displays can appear in front of the user, making it possible to watch YouTube on a large floating screen, explore a city with Google Maps or interact with content without holding a device. Because Android concepts and navigation are already familiar, the report described familiar software as a major advantage, especially for first-time XR users.

The demo started with basic hand gestures such as pinch, tap, drag and scroll. The controls felt awkward at first but became natural after about 10 minutes. XREAL said the demo included only a small part of the full onboarding experience, and first-time owners will go through a more detailed gesture-training sequence.

Aura is the product of a collaboration among XREAL, Google and Qualcomm. Google supplies the Android XR platform and ecosystem, Qualcomm provides the Snapdragon computing platform, and XREAL brings its AR eyewear, optics and spatial-computing expertise. The main platform is Snapdragon Reality Elite, while a custom X1S Spatial Coprocessor from XREAL may also be made by TSMC, according to the company.

The glasses contain two Sony Micro OLED displays, each with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, refresh rates up to 120Hz and a 70-degree field of view. XREAL's X Prism optical system fits those displays into a conventional eyewear design. The reporter found the look inoffensive but noted it probably will not work for everyone.

XREAL has been teasing a fall launch for months and is now sharing a more concrete timeline. The company has said the Aura glasses will arrive before the end of 2026.
