Xtream Player update adds Winamp-style visualizer and experimental video casting to Android Auto

Xtream Player v1.6.0 brings a Winamp-like visualizer, experimental phone-to-car video sending, and playback upgrades for Android Auto users.

The update, v1.6.0, was announced on Reddit with screenshots showing the visualization feature. Users can choose from nine visual styles, and the feature is available to both free and premium users.

According to Android Authority, the app now lets users send a video from their phone to their car, though the feature is experimental and may be buggy. The update also hides in-page controls after a few seconds for a more immersive YouTube experience, and the quality picker now matches YouTube’s quality options.

Xtream Player v1.6.0 can resume playback after a call instead of dropping to the car’s radio, and captions are now off by default. These changes apply to both free and premium versions.

The developer previously announced he was shutting down the app, then rewrote the entire codebase and brought the app back. A few weeks ago, an update added dashboard games. For premium users, the new version remembers the last visualizer used and supports official MilkDrop and libprojectM visualizers, offering additional visualization options.
