Yonhap News Agency to Launch 'Yonhap LM' AI Assistant for Reporting and Fact-Checking

Yonhap to beta-launch Yonhap LM, an AI assistant in its E-GENE platform for reporting, data analysis and fact-checking.

The service is a function of E-GENE, the agency's proprietary AI platform for news production support, which began development late last year. A beta version will be made available to Yonhap's journalists and editors soon, the agency said.

Users can conduct joint reporting by sharing data and can connect the AI agent to the speech-to-text service on the E-GENE platform to fact-check and analyze press conferences and interviews, according to Yonhap. The AI agent was created to improve the accuracy, speed and depth of news production, the company said.

"Yonhap plans to serve as a bastion of trustworthy journalism by creating timely, accurate and in-depth content in an era where misinformation is rampant," said Hwang Dae-il, chief executive officer of the newswire. "We will use AI as a supporting tool to innovate reporting and production of news," he added.
