YouTube appears to be testing hiding the dislike button
YouTube appears to be testing hiding the dislike button for some users, according to a report citing 9to5Google.
At least two users on X recently shared screenshots showing the dislike button placed in the three-dots submenu, according to the report. A Reddit user also shared an image in which the dislike button was absent. The Verge said that for its author, the dislike button still sits next to the like button under a video. Moving it to a submenu would require more effort to access and would likely mean fewer people use it, the report said.
It is unclear how widely the apparent test may be rolled out. Google did not immediately reply to a request for comment, The Verge reported.
YouTube has changed the dislike button before. In 2021, it hid the public dislike count on videos to help “protect creators from harassment,” though creators can still see dislike counts. Earlier this year, YouTube removed the dislike button from YouTube Shorts and suggested that users use options in the three-dots menu instead.
