YouTube Freezes Reported on Samsung Galaxy Phones, Most Often the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
Users of several Samsung Galaxy phones, most of them Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra owners, say the YouTube app freezes while video keeps playing audio. Samsung has not responded to the complaints.
The complaints are collected in a thread on a Korean-language Samsung community forum that has been drawing comments for several weeks, with new posts appearing as recently as the day Android Authority published its story. According to the publication's account of the machine-translated thread, leaving the YouTube app while a video is playing and then returning to it can cause the picture to freeze while the audio continues. The user who started the thread said the problem occurred roughly half the time on their device.
About a dozen commenters wrote that they had run into a similar problem, Android Authority reported. Most of those responses came from Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra owners, the $2,100 model at the top of Samsung's foldable lineup. Some users said they had seen the same behavior on other Samsung phones, including the non-Ultra Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Samsung has not replied to the forum thread, and no explanation for the freezes has been posted. Android Authority said it was not obvious what was causing the issue, but noted that the number of reports accumulated in the thread over the past couple of weeks indicated that something was affecting users.
The report did not say whether a fix or workaround is available. Android Authority asked readers who have experienced playback problems on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Galaxy S26 Ultra to describe them.
