YouTube Says It Is Not Testing Dislike-Button Hiding for Viewers

YouTube denies testing dislike-button hiding for viewers, saying a creator-only UI moves dislike into three-dot menu.

The Verge reported that at least two users on X shared screenshots showing the dislike button moved into the three-dot menu. In a Wednesday statement to The Verge, YouTube spokesperson Kimberly Taylor said: “We are not testing hiding the dislike button on YouTube for users. We’re introducing a new UI for creators on their own uploaded videos, where dislike is behind the three-dot menu, and as always, they can find their full dislike counts in Studio, alongside other analytics.”

The creator-only change means viewers will still see the dislike button in its existing place, according to YouTube. Creators will see dislike behind the three-dot menu when managing their own videos, while full dislike counts remain available in YouTube Studio.

The adjustment follows earlier changes to the dislike button. YouTube began hiding public dislike counts on videos in 2021, saying the move was intended to prevent harassment, and it removed the dislike button from Shorts videos earlier this year.
