ZDNet: Change these four settings on your Galaxy Z Fold 8 camera for better photos
A ZDNet guide published Aug. 27 recommends four camera settings—24MP resolution, photo softening, composition aids, and Camera Assistant—to improve Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 pictures.
The first recommended step is to install Camera Assistant, now accessible through the camera app's settings menu. Once installed, users can take control over the default camera processing and performance. The guide says this is especially useful for phones with no optical zoom capability, like the Fold 8.
Second, ZDNet recommends setting the default photo resolution to 24MP instead of the out-of-the-box 12MP. This improves clarity from both the main and ultrawide cameras, particularly for 2x and 4x digital zoom shots, without taking up as much storage as 50MP mode. Users can enable this in Camera Assistant by selecting 24MP resolution and toggling both "24 MP in Photo mode" and "Keep 24 MP resolution."
Third, the report advises enabling Photo Softening at Medium or High. ZDNet says Samsung's default processing tends to oversharpen skin tones in artificial lighting, producing a processed look. The publication tested three shots in indoor lighting and found that Medium or High softening made skin and beard details look more natural, with no noticeable difference in clarity.
Fourth, the guide suggests turning on composition assistance tools such as grid lines and leveling. These are found in the camera's Composition guide settings under the camera app's menu. ZDNet says these features are more helpful on the Fold 8 because its 16:10 viewfinder takes time to get used to. The publication also recommends enabling the 2x crop zoom shortcut for one-tap access, which is useful when shooting zoom shots in hi-res mode.
ZDNet notes that the Fold 8 shares much of its camera hardware with other Galaxy flagships but offers a 50MP main sensor compared with the 200MP on the Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The guide says the camera hardware is more capable than the spec sheet suggests, and the default 12MP processing saves space but sacrifices detail.
