ZDNET Lab Test Names LG C6 and Hisense U8 Color-Accuracy Winners

ZDNET's lab test of seven TVs found LG C6 most accurate in SDR and Hisense U8 in HDR; TCL QM8L also impressed.

According to ZDNET, the lab used Portrait Displays' Calman software, the same tool Hollywood studios and broadcast networks use to validate color. The team measured color gamut, or the range of colors a display can produce, and color accuracy, or how faithfully the TV reproduces the colors sent by a pattern generator. Color gamut was measured as a percentage of rec.709 for SDR and rec.2020 for HDR. Accuracy was scored using Delta E 2000 for SDR and Delta E ITP for HDR, with lower scores indicating better performance. Because SDR and HDR are calculated differently, ZDNET chose a separate winner for each.

Winners were determined in Filmmaker mode, generally the most accurate color mode on a TV; for models without it, ZDNET used the brand's equivalent. The LG C6 recorded a dE2000 score of 1.84, the best SDR result. The Hisense U8 scored 7.73 dEITP, the best HDR result. The TCL QM8L took third in SDR and second in HDR, earning an honorable mention. The Hisense U7 and Sunbrite Veranda ranked lowest in both formats.

In a separate assessment of the LG C6, ZDNET said the updated OLED panel is brighter than its predecessor and better controls color bleed and backlight blooming. The reviewer, who spent a week with the TV, said its colors made him question his loyalty to Mini LED. The TV's Game Optimizer mode automatically lowers input latency and supports Nvidia G-Sync VRR, with near-perfect audio-video sync in testing.

ZDNET also recommended the Hisense U8QG, a 65-inch sub-flagship it tested in the same lab, as one of the smartest TV buys. The set uses Hisense's ULED technology and combines Mini-LED and QLED features. It has a 165Hz native refresh rate, three HDMI ports, and ZDNET noted it is the first Hisense TV with a USB-C port that can work as an alternate display input for PC gamers.

In a separate 2026 roundup, ZDNET named Samsung's QN90F the best TV overall, citing object-tracking sound, picture quality, and an integrated security chip. The 4K QLED TV supports HDR10+, Dolby Atmos virtual surround sound, and Samsung's Object Tracking Sound+ technology. Its matte coating helps cut glare, and a dedicated gaming mode supports variable refresh rates up to 144Hz, cloud gaming, and automatic low latency. ZDNET said the QN90F is a strong option for console gamers and movie buffs, though larger screen sizes carry a steep price.
