ZDNet experts have selected the Apple iPad Mini (7th gen) as the best small tablet of 2026, citing its powerful A17 Pro chip, support for Apple Intelligence, and portable design.

ZDNet's team evaluated small tablets from Apple, Samsung, Amazon, and other brands, focusing on portability, performance, and features. The iPad Mini emerged as the top pick for its combination of power and size.

The iPad Mini features an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display and weighs just 0.65 pounds. It is powered by the A17 Pro chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and is compatible with Apple Intelligence. The tablet also supports the Apple Pencil Pro, with a charging spot on the right side.

Customers who bought the iPad Mini praised its battery life, durability, display, and portability, according to ZDNet. The device fits easily in purses and bags, making it convenient for entertainment on the go.

ZDNet writer Maria Diaz, who tested the device, said, "The iPad Mini 7 is compact and fast, and its Apple silicon processor is built to last for years." She added, "Buy the iPad Mini 7 for the entertainment tablet it is." If you're not a fan of the Apple ecosystem, ZDNet suggests looking at other picks, and also mentions Amazon's Fire tablet lineup as a budget-friendly alternative.

The iPad Mini is available with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB storage in space gray, blue, purple, and starlight. It has a 12MP rear camera with 4K video, a 12MP ultra-wide front camera with Center Stage, USB-C connectivity, and a battery life of up to 10 hours. The dimensions are 7.69 x 5.3 x 0.25 inches.
