Anthropic Files for Nasdaq IPO; Apple Launches iPad Mini and Addresses Duo Screen Cracks
Anthropic files for Nasdaq IPO; Apple launches iPad mini, addresses Duo cracks; OpenAI, XPeng in news.
The filing showed first-half revenue of $16.286 billion, up from $1.163 billion a year earlier. GAAP net loss was $80.748 billion; $72.388 billion of that came from fair-value changes in convertible notes, derivative liabilities and simple agreements for future equity, mainly tied to rising valuation and not equivalent to cash burn. Operating loss was $693 million, while adjusted operating profit was $1.618 billion on a non-GAAP basis after excluding stock-based compensation and non-cash charitable donations. Anthropic warned that revenue growth could slow, computing and infrastructure expansion would keep costs under pressure, and highly autonomous AI systems could pose catastrophic risks if misused or insufficiently safeguarded. A special Class F share held by the founder entity will carry 50.1% of votes on ordinary shareholder matters.
Apple quietly added a new iPad mini to its website, moving to an 8.5-inch OLED Ultra Retina XDR display and the A20 Pro chip. The device is 5.4 mm thick and the Wi-Fi model weighs 255 grams. The screen has narrower bezels and up to 1,200 nits peak HDR brightness but still lacks 120Hz ProMotion. The A20 Pro uses a 2nm process; 128GB and 256GB models have a five-core CPU and one 16-core neural engine, while the 512GB model has a six-core CPU and two 16-core neural engines. Apple added an Acoustic Display audio system, IP67 water and dust resistance, a 12-megapixel Center Stage front camera on the long edge, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, with a C2 modem on cellular models. The Wi-Fi 128GB model starts at 5,499 yuan and the cellular model at 6,799 yuan; orders open Oct. 28 and sales start Nov. 6.
Apple also responded to complaints that the inner screen of some iPhone Duo devices is cracking. In a statement to media, Apple said a small number of devices are affected, that most units are unaffected and that the problem usually appears early in use; affected users should contact AppleCare for a replacement. According to ifanr, Apple has not issued formal guidance to retail stores and customer-service staff, but teams are investigating and some engineers are trying to recover affected devices for analysis. Users had posted photos on Reddit and other forums showing cracks along the hinge centerline, and iFixit's teardown suggested a component may be putting too much pressure on the display.
OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, focused on visual understanding, computer operation and natural writing. It is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users of ChatGPT Work and Codex, and developers can call it through the API. OpenAI said standard API pricing is 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol: $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 for cached input and $5 for output. In the Agents' Last Exam test, which includes tasks such as turning architectural drawings into 3D models, Terra at medium reasoning strength scored 15 percentage points higher than the previous generation and matched GPT-6 Astra; OpenAI said it completes computer-operation tasks more than three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. On Terminal-Bench 4.0 at the highest reasoning strength, Terra passed 50.3% of tasks, compared with 21.5% for the previous generation, while OpenAI still lists Sol and Astra as preferred for the most complex coding tasks.
XPeng's robotaxi business received a Guangzhou intelligent connected vehicle demonstration operation permit to conduct L4 demonstration operations across the city, according to Southern Metropolis Daily's Bay Finance on Oct. 26. The service, named XPeng YOYO, will initially open through invite codes and gradually expand. It follows road testing and employee trials: XPeng's first mass-produced robotaxi rolled off the line in May, the company completed the online ordering and autonomous pickup-to-drop-off chain in July, obtained a driverless road-test qualification in Guangzhou in August, and launched the YOYO mini-program in October. The vehicle is based on the XPeng GX and carries four self-developed Turing AI chips and a second-generation VLA model. Chairman He Xiaopeng has said the business will provide partners with vehicle platforms, autonomous-driving software and AI capabilities, with partners operating local fleets; revenue will come from hardware sales, technical services and commission sharing.

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash was second with 18 trillion tokens, followed by MiniMax M3.1 Flash free edition at 13.7 trillion, GLM 5.3 Flash at 13.2 trillion and Tencent Hy4 preview at 8.97 trillion. In a separate count of text requests for the week starting Oct. 19, DeepSeek had a 26.5% share, also first.
