Apple AirPods 5 preorders begin ahead of September 18 launch

AirPods 5 preorders start at $129 before a September 18 launch, as retailers add trade-in deals and early discounts on Apple devices.

The Verge reported that the $129 AirPods 5 add active noise cancellation, which had previously been available only on the more expensive $179 AirPods 4 with ANC. The $149 version includes a wireless charging case, longer battery life, and touch controls on the earbud stem that let users adjust volume without pulling out a phone. Both versions are available for preorder from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Apple, according to The Verge.

9to5Mac reported that preorders are also live for the AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case and that an existing Amazon deal has the flagship AirPods Pro 3 at $199, down from a regular price of $249. That puts the AirPods Pro 3 just $50 above the base AirPods 5. The report said Apple does not appear to be offering trade-in options for the new AirPods 5, but Best Buy is accepting older AirPods 4 models. Best Buy offers $50 for the base AirPods 4 and $65 for the AirPods 4 with ANC, which can bring the new AirPods 5 down to as low as $64 and the wireless charging case model down to as low as $84, according to 9to5Mac.

The same report said Amazon has started discounting select Apple Watch Series 12 preorders. A 42mm Series 12 GPS + Cell configuration was listed at $489.99 shipped, compared with a regular price of $499. 9to5Mac also listed Apple Watch Series 12 pricing at $399 for the 42mm model, $449 for the 46mm model, $549 for the 46mm GPS + Cell model, $699 for the 42mm Titanium model, $749 for the 46mm Titanium model, and $949 for the 46mm Ceramic model. The report said Best Buy trade-in promotions can cut up to $325 off Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4 preorders.

AirTag 2 pricing also returned to all-time lows, according to 9to5Mac. Amazon had the single AirTag 2 at $24, matching the lowest price tracked for a new unit, while the four-pack was $79.99 shipped, or $20 per AirTag 2. The regular prices are $29 for a single and $99 for a four-pack, the report said.

9to5Mac reported that Amazon brought back an all-time low on the 2026 Apple Studio Display XDR with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand at $2,969, a $330 discount. It also said a refurbished model carries a $500 discount. The report mentioned a $50 discount on Sharge's metal 300W smart display power bank, though it did not provide full pricing details in the summary.

The Verge said it is working on a review of the new AirPods 5. It directed readers to preorder links from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Apple for both AirPods 5 models.
