Matic Launches Serene Robot Vacuum at $1,695 With 52-Decibel Cleaning

Matic launched the Serene, a $1,695 robot vacuum that runs at 52 decibels at maximum suction and offers existing owners a hardware upgrade path.

The new model’s main change is noise reduction. Matic co-founder and president Mehul Nariyawala told The Verge that the Serene is aimed at people “who are extremely noise sensitive,” but that beyond noise levels it is “exactly the same Matic.” The company said the quieter operation comes through a new hardware stack. Existing Matic owners will be able to request a Serene hardware upgrade for their current model in early 2027.

Robot vacuums that are too loud often get switched off by owners before they finish cleaning, and quiet modes on many models reduce suction power. The Verge reported that the Serene is designed to clean at maximum power at 52 decibels. Nariyawala said it is very quiet on carpets and hard surfaces, with users mostly hearing the brush roll. The original Matic operates at 55 decibels, according to the report.

Matic’s vacuum uses a form factor and navigation system that differ from most lidar-based disc robots sold by iRobot, Roborock, Dreame and other brands. Nariyawala told The Verge that Matic was designed to address what he called the “seven deadly sins of robot vacuums,” with noise high on the list alongside getting stuck and dying under the couch.

Many robot vacuums have quiet modes that run around 55 to 60 decibels by lowering suction, while high-power modes are closer to 70 decibels, The Verge reported. Matic launched with a claim of 55 decibels at its highest level; the Serene lowers that by 3 decibels. The Verge’s reviewer said the original Matic could be used while working from home but sometimes had to be shut off during phone calls, and that the quieter model might not require that interruption.

Existing owners can upgrade for the difference between their original purchase price and the Serene’s $1,695 price. Because Matic has raised prices since launch, an owner who bought at $1,095 could pay $600 for the upgrade, The Verge reported. The reviewer said that would probably be a tough sell, but added that the Serene could appeal to people who gave up on robot vacuums because of noise. A full review is planned.
