Minisforum DEG1 eGPU Dock Falls to $109; UGREEN Thunderbolt 5 Dock Returns to $349.99
Minisforum's DEG1 eGPU dock is $109 at Newegg; UGREEN's Thunderbolt 5 dock is $349.99 on Amazon, reports say.
TechRadar reported that the DEG1 is an open-frame eGPU dock for mini PCs with an OCuLink port. It has a full-length PCIe x16 slot for a full-size graphics card such as the Nvidia RTX 4090, a PCIe 4.0 x4 OCuLink 4i uplink, support for standard ATX and SFX power supplies, and a power button with an LED. A GPU and power supply are not included. OCuLink does not support hot plugging, so the PC should be shut down before the dock is connected or disconnected.
TechRadar described the DEG1 as the simplest, cheapest way it knows to add a desktop GPU to an OCuLink mini PC, aimed at users whose integrated graphics hold back video exports, rendering or games. The report said OCuLink loses less performance than Thunderbolt or USB4. It also cautioned that the $199 list price should not be taken too seriously: the DEG1 launched in 2024 at around €90, so $109 is close to its original asking price rather than a 45% cut.
Android Authority reported that UGREEN's Maxidok is back at $349.99 on Amazon, a 30% discount from the $499.99 RRP and a return to its all-time low. The 17-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 dock supports up to 80 Gbps bidirectional bandwidth and up to 120 Gbps with Bandwidth Boost. It has a built-in M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 slot that can add up to 8TB of SSD storage, DisplayPort 2.1, a single 8K display or dual 6K setup, up to 140W laptop charging and around 240W total power across the dock.
The UGREEN dock also provides 2.5Gb Ethernet, multiple USB-A and USB-C ports, SD and microSD card slots and downstream Thunderbolt ports. Android Authority said the deal makes a premium dock easier to justify for a serious desktop setup for creative work or a workstation. Both reports frame the discounts around specific hardware requirements: the DEG1 needs an OCuLink-equipped computer and a separately purchased GPU and power supply, while the Maxidok is a Thunderbolt 5 dock for desk setups that need more than a few extra USB ports.
Editor's Summary Minisforum's DEG1 eGPU dock is discounted to $109 at Newegg, and UGREEN's Maxidok Thunderbolt 5 dock is $349.99 on Amazon. The DEG1 requires OCuLink and a separate GPU and power supply, while the UGREEN dock adds storage and display connectivity for desktop setups.
