OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Financial Services built on GPT-6 Astra

OpenAI released ChatGPT for Financial Services on September 11, 2026, pairing GPT-6 Astra with built-in data from Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News. Access is limited to eligible financial institutions for now.

OpenAI said analysts spend too much time locating data, checking figures, building models and turning complex analysis into presentation-friendly reports, and that the new product is meant to handle those tasks. The tool was developed with guidance from investment experts at Morgan Stanley and Evercore, TechRadar reported.

Data access is central to the offering. OpenAI has built datasets from Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News directly into the tool, so users do not have to negotiate their own external data arrangements. OpenAI hosts and indexes that data itself, which the company says improves performance and reduces latency for end users. It is also working with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva and Moody's so that customers can reach their existing subscription entitlements through a ChatGPT login, and TechRadar reports that third-party subscription sharing is still in development.

The product runs on GPT-6 Astra. On the Long Context MRCR benchmark, OpenAI reports a rise from 91.5% to 100% in the 256K-512K range and from 73.8% to 96.3% in the 512K-1M range, compared with GPT-5.6 Sol. OpenAI treats long-document handling as directly relevant to finance, where annual reports and regulatory filings are routinely lengthy. The company also cites a 100% score on the ExploitBench cybersecurity benchmark, a figure aimed at a heavily regulated customer base.

Access is initially limited to eligible financial institutions, which must contact OpenAI to discuss options, according to TechRadar.

In its launch blog post, OpenAI said ChatGPT for Financial Services is one way it serves customers across the industry, but that a range of solutions will be required to meet the needs of finance. "OpenAI has a long history of collaborating with innovators to unlock novel AI solutions," the company said. "Financial services firms and developers can use our API to build specialized applications for the needs they understand best. OpenAI brings frontier models and the capabilities to put them to work. Financial institutions, data providers, and software partners bring specialized expertise, trusted information, and customer relationships."
