Samsung to require parental approval for some apps on children’s Galaxy phones
Samsung will require guardians to approve some apps on children’s Galaxy phones starting in 2027, as part of a One UI update.
The update will affect both preinstalled apps and apps that a child has already downloaded, Android Authority reported. Samsung said the feature will arrive as part of the next One UI software update but did not give an exact rollout date. The company also did not specify which apps will be grayed out or the criteria it will use to decide. It is unclear whether the reference is to One UI 9.5, expected with the Galaxy S27, or One UI 10.
Samsung recommends that guardians prepare by creating or joining a family group. Children aged 13 or older can be invited into the group, while children under 13 require a Samsung Child Account. Guardians can then turn on Samsung Parental Controls and approve or block apps on the child’s device from their own phone.
