Slate Partners With Smarties for Six Pastel EV Truck Wraps

Slate is partnering with Smarties on six pastel wraps for its barebones EV trucks, named for candy flavors and bundled with branded charms; pricing is undisclosed.

The six shades are named for flavors in the original Smarties candy rather than for their actual colors: Strawberry (green), Pineapple (yellow), Orange (a beige-like tone), Grape (lavender), Cherry (pinkish) and Blue Raspberry (light blue). Slate sells the trucks in flat grey, but the body panels are prepared for wrapping in any shade the customer chooses, according to the report.

Slate has already worked with crayon maker Crayola to offer wraps in five of its branded hues. As with that partnership, the Smarties deal includes accessories beyond the wrap: a Smarties-branded Slatelet charm for the key fob, a Smarties-branded vent charm and a Smarties logo on the rear gate.

Engadget reported that pricing for the wraps has not been announced. Buyers can add the wrap as an option ahead of their delivery date.

Engadget's Tim Stevens has driven the Slate EV. He noted that it rides low enough for the driver to see pedestrians and produces 181 horsepower, making it small and slow by modern American standards. The truck's focus, according to the report, is on real functionality.

Editor's Summary Slate is adding six Smarties-branded pastel wrap options to its barebones EV truck, following a similar Crayola partnership. The wraps come with branded charms and a tailgate logo, but pricing has not been disclosed. The move expands customization options for a low-cost truck focused on basic functionality.
