Cocoon 3.1 Beta Adds Launcher-Based Game Switching for Android Handhelds

Cocoon 3.1 beta adds launcher game suspend/resume, lower-spec optimizations and grid tools for Android handhelds.

With the beta installed, pressing the Home button in a game suspends the title on the launcher grid and leaves an active snapshot of the point where the player left off, according to the report. Tapping A returns to the game. Pressing X shuts down the game along with any background companion apps. On dual-screen devices, users can swap active display outputs while the game is running.

The update also adds performance optimizations for lower-spec handhelds, a drag-and-resize grid editor, exact battery percentage counters and dual-screen display swapping, Android Authority reported. Those changes sit alongside the game-switching feature in the 3.1 beta.

Cocoon 3.1 beta is available to sideload via GitHub and includes a built-in auto-updater for future versions, according to the report. The release notes were highlighted on Reddit, Android Authority said.

Cocoon is a frontend tailored heavily for modern Android handhelds such as the AYN Thor. The 3.1 beta arrives as dedicated Android emulation frontends have made gains, with apps including ES-DE, Socket and Blip elevating the experience for handheld users, Android Authority reported.
